We’re All Going To Die

“Years ago I went through a crippling chapter of anxiety. I was so afraid of the unknown and making the “wrong” decision. During that time I wrote a poem called ‘We’re All Going To Die’. It sounds morbid, but it had the opposite effect on me. It gave me a sense of peace knowing that death is the only guarantee we have in life, and everything else is a mystery. So much beauty exists in the unknown if you lean into it.”
“Sharing this message has highlighted to me that I’m not the only one with day-to-day fears. Failure, rejection, judgement, the unknown. We all feel it. The sooner we talk about it we realize we’re not alone. That’s why this project exists, the use art to start those important conversations.”
“You won’t believe it when I tell you how this film came about, Funding! So cliché. I poured my life savings into the project and ran a Kickstarter campaign to make it happen.”

“For the VFX I referenced national geographic collages. I wanted those worlds to feel surreal and nostalgic. Other moments I drew from work by The Daniels and Michel Gondry. As we were adapting a poem for screen and not changing the dialogue we were limited in many ways. This forced our pre-production to consider how certain elements could capture the magic of the story and enhance the message. I had a lot of conversations with the crew around lighting, set design and blocking. Then in post the music and sound design really brought the essence of the project to life.”

“We shot the film on a Red Dragon with Cook s4’s. My good mate Campbell Brown was the DOP and nailed it. For our studio shoot we had a stunt team working with wires that was good fun. I wrote, directed and edited the project and worked alongside a VFX team and amazing sound designer / composer.”
“It was such a rewarding journey. It’s been amazing to tour this film as part of our festival to Australia, New Zealand and the USA. The response is so positive to the message and people have since quit their jobs to pursue their dreams. That gives me goosebumps when I know my art has inspired someone to live their life to its fullest.”
