Lauren and Tyler

“I came into filmmaking because I just love narratives and I love to take a cinematic approach to whatever I am doing, whether it's a commercial or a wedding video like this one. I love the aesthetic of cinema, so I really wanted to bring a bit of that to this particular project.”
“The main reason I did this wedding, is because they gave me the freedom to run wild with it. I shot this thing using the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. I really used this video as my first camera test and I was really surprised at how well it turned out. I really put the camera through its paces to see what its limitations and strengths were.”
“This project was shot at Noblesville Indiana, which is a very small country town. The couple were looking for a look that represented where the wedding was being held. So Lauren and Tyler were going for something vintage, almost a hippie look to it I guess. What I can say is they wanted something that was very relaxed.”

“This location was so beautify. For me the location is so important and on this project the location did most of my work for me. Really, I didn't do very much more than show up and pull my camera out and start shooting whatever popped out in front of me!”
“One of my favorite shots was the wedding dress hanging in the tree. The photographer, Mallory Talty had the shot set up for stills, so I just stole her art direction and went with it. This shot with the tree and the dress was taken at the bride’s house, which was about 20 miles out of town.”
“I didn't have all the much storage with me on this one, and I always try to shoot in RAW when I can. So I had to be very select with what I was shooting. I got there at 9.30 in the morning and didn't leave until 11 at night so it was a long day of shooting. In the end, I had to shoot half on ProRes and the other half on RAW. I also used a Kodak 2393 Emulation LUT, which is a super quick way of getting a great film look. I used this LUT to get my shots off to a good starting point with a solid balance to them, as far as highlights are concerned. I usually have this LUT setup on my second node in Resolve.”
“The couple told me they wanted really strong colors in the grade and not the washed out colors that typically go with the vintage look, which is right up my alley. So I went crazy with this grade. I just love the ‘contrasty’ look and having really punchy images. This camera did an amazing job for me given the colors. Importantly, everyone just loved the final look to it. Whatever that look may be - vintage or hippie - it just looked great for this wedding video."
