Being Young

“The proposition was pretty simply, ‘hey, if you want to buy a Porsche, buy a Porsche. Don’t feel bad about it!’ Essentially, that was the brief they gave me, and we kinda, just had some fun with it. We did some crazy stuff shooting in upstate New York.”
“This was the first time my team and I, had really had a chance of shooting sheet metal. I have shot ‘cars’ before, but never like this, where we were having to produce high quality car material. There is a lot of complexity in shooting cars and a lot of challenges too. Natural light is so critical for shooting good car imagery and sometimes the weather wasn’t co-operating we us. So we had to maximise what we had, to make it work. But it was super, super fun!”
“We did a few things that were kinda interesting with this shoot. We built our own fog car, so that we we could control the amount of fog at night as we wanted. We used five generators on the back of a pickup truck with five haze machines that could dump haze as we were driving along the road to give us some really cool texture. In all, we had a five car line-up for every car shot, with a lead police car, the client’s car, the fog car, camera car and the picture car. It was all so insane! I was so grateful to have an assistant director on board for this one - that’s for sure!”

“The camera car was actually a mini van that we just opened up and hung a MōVI M15 with a remote to control the pan, tilt and focus on a RED. We then popped some anamorphic lenses on the RED, and by using a drone, we could get some of those really cool flyby shots that look like a helicopter was in close proximity. It was super wild! There were just so many amazing shots of that car, that sadly just didn’t make the edit.”
"They wanted people seeing the campaign to become invested in these stories - and to have no regrets"

“Solve originally came to me with this project, because they were looking for a unique narrative. They wanted real people with a real story, kind of thing. They wanted people seeing the campaign to become invested in these stories - and to have no regrets. Which is why the spot is called ‘Never too late’.”
“While shooting all of this beautiful footage, I decided to make a second piece of my own that spoke a little closer to me. I wanted this to have a message about not giving up on the dreams we have in life. With the challenges we face day to day, and as we get older, our dreams seem to become harder to realize. But are they? Maybe it just takes more energy and effort to make our dreams happen. Whether its a new job or a car, you just have to focus all of your energies on making it happen. For me, those dreams don’t just go away, they are still waiting! And so that was the concept I wanted to build into this project, which I called ‘Being Young’”.
