Whackala

"Paul and I decided to do our first documentary together on the indigenous Mayan women of the South of Mexico. And that’s how it came about that we started our production company Whackala. In the city of Guadalajara in Mexico, they say 'Whackala', which means ‘yikes!’ in English. The actual spelling is 'guacala' but we both fell in love with the anglicised sound of 'Whackala.'" "Since starting 'Whackala' we have produced a number of international award-winning documentaries. The first being a 52-minute film called 'After the Revolution,' which we co-production with Spain's Canal Sur TV. This documentary tells the story of how the Zapatista National Liberation Army affected the lives of the indigenous women in the South of Mexico, who were seeking to secure justice and equality within their own culture."
"Our documentary about Dublin's all-year-round ocean bathers, called 'Forty Foot,' also won Best Film at the International Doc Challenge, Best Irish Short Documentary and Audience Award at the IFI Stranger than Fiction Documentary Film Festival in Dublin. Since then, we have gone on to complete another documentary about Dublin's city park called 'City Wild.' Given that Paul is a producer and animator, we are also working on a pre-school children series called 'Squinky and the Witch' and 'Crime Fighting Foley Monkeys', which were both presented at MIPCOM 2011”
