“My mum owned a café and my dad was a landscaper. I used to help them both out in my school holidays to earn my pocket money. I’ve never met anyone who is as passionate about nature than my father. He definitely instilled a great appreciation for the outdoors in me. I am very fortunate to have supportive and creative parents. They have never once told me I can’t pursue my passions. I am fortunate to be blessed with their support and to live in a country where less traditional career paths are not frowned upon.”
“I went to Mosman High School in Sydney. I didn’t go to university. In Australia kids are encouraged to take a ‘Gap Year’ after high school and go travelling for a year then return to studies. I guess that makes me on my 10th consecutive Gap Year.”
“When I was eighteen I travelled across the USA in an ice cream truck for 7 months with my best mate, Jonno Durrant. We made a documentary titled ‘Surfing 50 States’ (we stretched the definition of “surfing” for those who know their geography). Our intention was to create a film to share with our friends and family however the documentary ended up on television and in film festivals much to our surprise. That was the moment I realized I could pursue this passion as a career, the rest is history.”

“Initially I self funded all my film projects by working any job I could find. Landscaping, Surf Shop, Cinema, Fish & Chip shop, the list goes on. I then began working in the film industry as a runner but my desire to be more involved with the creative process became apparent so I began shooting, directing and editing smaller budget videos which have increased in scale over the years. I use these funds to continue my own side projects.”
“My biggest influencers would have to be my family who continue to support every wacky decision I make. I’m also blessed to have a super creative group of friends who bring out the best in my work and me. I love going for an early surf and coffee with them and chatting about our ideas, projects and dreams. My dad always told me “You’re the average of your environment. Hang out with negative people and eventually they’ll bring you down. Hang out with like minded positive people and they’ll bring out the best in you”. I always remember this advice when it comes to work and the crew I collaborate with on projects.”
“Right now I’m about to head to Colombia to scout a new documentary project which is mega exciting. I’m also beginning to move away from documentary and explore the world of music videos and short films. Jumping in the deep end with a new project or style is what excites me to continue my journey in film. It makes work fresh, challenging and fun and that’s super important to me. If you’re going to work crazy long hours, invest your own funds in a project, assemble a dedicated crew to produce a video that only lasts one minute and you’re not enjoying yourself then I don’t think it’s worth it.”
“One day I will make a feature narrative. Right now I have no idea what it looks like. Until then I just want to explore all creative forms and spend my time working on projects that bring joy to my life and the lives of others.”
